237 Pratt Street | Longmont, Colorado
Old Mill Park was dedicated on August 1, 1976, for historical and educational purposes. It features original buildings, plantings, and artifacts, and has been designated as a landmark by the City of Longmont.
The park was created by the St. Vrain Historical Society through the purchase of Townley House and the donation of the Secor Centennial Garden by Bill and Betty Jo Secor. Additional properties, including those on Pratt and Bross Streets, were later acquired. Each backyard was incorporated into the park, and some of the houses were kept as rental properties to help support the project.
Docent-led tours are available from April through October, lasting one hour and accommodating up to 30 people per group. For tour information and reservations, please call the SVHS business office at (303) 776-1870.
The park is open to the public from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, or from sunrise to sunset, daily during the spring and summer seasons, unless reserved for private events. Old Mill Park is closed to the public during the late fall and winter seasons.
Preserving History: The Affolter Cabin at Old Mill Park
The Affolter Cabin at Old Mill Park is undergoing an important preservation project to protect and maintain this historic structure. This project phase involves replacing the sill course logs on the east (living quarters) side of the cabin, which have suffered damage due to log rot and age. Four log sections are expected to be addressed as part of this critical work. This project is spearheaded by The St. Vrain Historical Society, Inc., a local nonprofit dedicated to preserving the history of Longmont and the St. Vrain Valley.
Funding for this project was made possible through the sponsorship of Longs Peak DAR Chapter and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The St Vrain Historical Society also wishes to acknowledge many generous donations from our community members and donors who have supported this project with their donations.
The St. Vrain Historical Society also wishes to acknowledge Deep Roots Craftsmen for their essential support and expertise in this project.
While this project is an important milestone, our preservation efforts of the Affolter Cabin are far from complete. Preservation is an ongoing effort, and we still need the support of our community to continue our work. There are still about four more phases of work to ensure the cabin's lasting preservation.
