The St. Vrain Historical Society, Inc. (SVHS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Longmont, Colorado, dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Longmont and the surrounding St. Vrain Valley. The Society’s mission is to “assure a future for our community’s past,” fostering an appreciation of local history and enhancing community engagement. SVHS works to achieve this through historic education, interpretive programming, and the preservation of four key historic sites: Historic Hoverhome, the Hover Farmstead, Old Mill Park, and "Old" St. Stephen’s Church.
SVHS is managed by a board of directors, who meet monthly, and is supported by one full-time staff member, a part-time staff member, and hundreds of active volunteers. Additionally, SVHS offers numerous committees that allow members to get involved in areas of personal interest.
As a long-standing advocate for historic preservation, SVHS has played a key role in shaping local preservation policies, including the designation of historical properties in three downtown districts. At Hoverhome, Old Mill Park, "Old" St. Stephen’s Church, and the Hover Farmstead, SVHS has earned a strong reputation for successfully completing preservation projects, maintaining historic properties, and ensuring they are accessible to the public.
SVHS membership is open to anyone with an interest in historic preservation or local history. The Society’s members, ranging from long-time residents to newcomers of all ages, share a common dedication to preserving the area’s heritage. This commitment is demonstrated through countless hours of volunteer service to the Society.

The Affolter Cabin at Old Mill Park is undergoing an important preservation project to protect and maintain this historic structure. This project phase involves replacing the sill course logs on the east (living quarters) side of the cabin, which have suffered damage due to log rot and age. Four log sections are expected to be addressed as part of this critical work. This project is spearheaded by The St. Vrain Historical Society, Inc., a local nonprofit dedicated to preserving the history of Longmont and the St. Vrain Valley.
Funding for this project was made possible through the sponsorship of Longs Peak DAR Chapter and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The St Vrain Historical Society also wishes to acknowledge many generous donations from our community members and donors who have supported this project with their donations.
The St. Vrain Historical Society also wishes to acknowledge Deep Roots Craftsmen for their essential support and expertise in this project.
While this project is an important milestone, our preservation efforts of the Affolter Cabin are far from complete. Preservation is an ongoing effort, and we still need the support of our community to continue our work. There are still about four more phases of work to ensure the cabin's lasting preservation.

The St. Vrain Historical Society, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation, and donations are tax-deductible.
